The International Day of Peace is on September 21st of each year and calls for a full day of peace and ceasefire throughout the world.

Established by U.N. resolution in 1982, “Peace Day” has grown to include millions of people around the world who participate in all kinds of events.

In 1981 the United Nations General Assembly passed resolution 36/67 declaring an International Day of Peace. In 2001, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a new resolution 55/282 declaring 21 September of each year as the International Day of Peace.

The resolution: «Declares that the International Day of Peace shall henceforth be observed as a day of global ceasefire and non-violence, an invitation to all nations and people to honour a cessation of hostilities for the duration of the Day…“Invites all Member States, organizations of the United Nations system, and non-governmental organizations and individuals to commemorate, in an appropriate manner, the International Day of Peace, including through education and public awareness, and to cooperate with the United Nations in the establishment of the global ceasefire».

Juntos Construimos Mais – Marcha pela Paz Julho 21, 2008

Este vídeo é anterior aos acontecimentos para muito surpreendentes de guerrilha popular a que o país assistiu no Bairro da Quinta da Fonte, freguesia da Apelação, concelho de Loures e que teve lugar no passado dia 11.

Hoje há uma marcha para a paz sob o mesmo slogan «Juntos Construimos Mais». Considero que é um slogan muito bem conseguido (e aplicável a quase tudo). Falta saber se tem alguma eficácia na restituição da paz no bairro afectado. Isto porque, segundo o porta-voz da comunidade cigana A paz só será alcançada com acções concretas e não simbólicas

In 1981 the United Nations General Assembly passed resolution 36/67 declaring an International Day of Peace. In 2001, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a new resolution 55/282 declaring 21 September of each year as the International Day of Peace.
