Bush and the Portuguese language Novembro 15, 2007

Filed under: George Bush,news,politics,Portugal,United States of America — looking4good @ 10:54 pm
The President of the United States, while discussing budgets issues, gave learning the Portuguese language as a second language an example of a wasteful project.

Bush is free to decide how to spend the budget money but he is, obviously, unaware that Portuguese language is the fifth most spoken language in the world.

Shouldn’t the Portuguese diplomacy act accordingly and manifest its disapproval?

Wastage is most certainly the time spent and space used up on this blog talking about Bush…

Bush e a língua portuguesa

Vignettes From The Pearly Gates (Day 3)

(Day 3)

When the climb seems so hard and the mountain seems so steep, when we stumble from the very guides we thought would lead us through, when body and soul weakens from the daily struggles and toils, remember to say to yourself, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4: 13)

Fish – Marianne Moore

wade
through black jade.
&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbspOf the crow-blue mussel-shells, one keeps
&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbspadjusting the ash-heaps;
&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbspopening and shutting itself like

an
injured fan.
&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbspThe barnacles which encrust the side
&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbspof the wave, cannot hide
&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbspthere for the submerged shafts of the

sun,
split like spun
&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbspglass, move themselves with spotlight swiftness
&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbspinto the crevices—
&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbspin and out, illuminating

the
turquoise sea
&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbspof bodies. The water drives a wedge
&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbspof iron throught the iron edge
&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbspof the cliff; whereupon the stars,

pink
rice-grains, ink-
&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbspbespattered jelly fish, crabs like green
&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsplilies, and submarine
&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsptoadstools, slide each on the other.

All
external
&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbspmarks of abuse are present on this
&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbspdefiant edifice—
&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbspall the physical features of

ac-
cident—lack
&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbspof cornice, dynamite grooves, burns, and
&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsphatchet strokes, these things stand
&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsout on it; the chasm-side is

dead.
Repeated
&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbspevidence ahs proved that it can live
&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbspon what can not revive
&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbspits youth. The sea grows old in it.

O Peixe – Marianne Moore

Peixe

Nad-
ando em negro jade.
Conchas azul-marinhas, uma

sobre montes de pó
a abrir e fechar como

que-brado leque.
Mariscos incrustados na
crista
da onda, agora à vista,
pois as setas submersas do

sol,
vidrilhos, sol-
tam reflexos, rápidas
rectas
por entre as gretas –
acebndendo a turquesa do

mar
crepuscular
de corpos. A água estende um
braço
de aço na aresta de aço
do penhasco, e então estrelas,

ros-
ados grãos de arroz,
medusas, caranguejos – lírios
verdes –
algas a escorrer, des-
lizam uns sobre os outros.

Os
sinais todos
do abuso estão presentes no
vazio
deste edifício-desafio
todos os traços físicos do

ac-
idente – lascas,
marvas de fogo ou dinamite,
cortes
de machado, tudo res-
iste nele, que como morto

jaz,
Pertinaz
evidência comprova que ele
vive
do que não lhe revive
a juventude. O mar envelhece nele.
