Sporting – Benfica 2 – 1 Janeiro 8, 2005

O Sporting venceu nesta noite em Alvalade, com justiça, o seu rival de Lisboa por 2-1 assumindo-se como o principal obstáculo do FC Porto no caminho para o título.

Quando há um jogo em que apenas uma equipa se dispõe a ganhar não pode haver dúvidas quando à justiça do resultado quando é essa equipa a que vence.

O Benfica (ou Trapattoni ? ) não mostrou vontade de ganhar. A jogar com mais um jogador esperava-se que no início da 2ª. parte passasse a controlar o jogo, mas tal não se passou. Continuou a jogar apenas com Nuno Gomes na frente e o Sporting continuava com maior controlo de bola. Depois de 10-10 em jogadores (após expulsão de Alcides) logo de imediato o Sporting fez 0 2-1 e ninguém teve dúvidas quanto ao vencedor.

Superioridade no meio campo e Liedson resolveu com dois golos. Liedson (que não devia ter jogado este jogo por castigo, mas que as surpreendentes regras de disciplina em Portugal permitiu que ao antecipar um jogo da Taça que estava calendarizado para depois, limpar o castigo), foi o melhor jogador em campo.

A equipa de arbitragem que esteve muito exigente em termos disciplinares com expulsões de Rui Jorge (na 1ª parte) e Alcides na segunda e cartões amarelos quase por tudo e por nada, esteve bem nos lances (que pareceram ao vivo muito duvidosos) dos golos de Nuno Gomes e de Liedson. O Benfica baixa para quarto na classificação e mais do que isso demonstra incapacidade para ser candidato ao título. Salva-se a esperança de Mantorras poder continuar a jogar futebol de alto nível.
